Provisioning Services are ecosystem services that describe the material or energy outputs from ecosystems. They include food, water and other resources. Food: Ecosystems provide the conditions for growing food. Food comes principally from managed agro-ecosystems but marine and freshwater systems or forests also provide food for human.

Malta represents an interesting case-study for ecosystem assessments, in particular because of the limited spatial extent and insularity, and the acting pressures, especially those arising from a high population density and a booming tourism industry which impact directly and indirectly on ecosystems and their services (Balzan and Debono, 2018; Balzan et al., 2018).

Incorporating ecosystem services into ESIA’s - a case study from the Republic of Congo Ecosystem services are the benefits derived from services within ecosystems that contribute to people’s well-being.

Ecosystem services ensure our survival as a species as well as underpinning our economic systems. But many of these ecosystem services do not factor into our economic decisions. As a result, they have been traditionally undervalued as critical inputs to our economies and wellbeing.

This provides an opportunity to examine the extent to which ecosystem services have been translated into national policy, providing a useful case study for global coastal governance. This paper reviews five recent Welsh acts, focusing specifically on the case study system of saltmarshes and their ecosystem services, benefits and processes.

In this case study, we focused on ecosystem services that can be jointly supplied but independently valued in economic terms: healthy climate (via carbon sequestration and storage), food (via fisheries production in nursery grounds), and nature recreation (nature watching and enjoyment).

The valuation of ecosystem services can become complex when, within a given ecosystem, interdependent ecosystem services are potentially available and fundamentally interlinked (Fisher et al., 2009). Our case study focuses on ecosystem services that can be jointly supplied by saltmarshes but can be independently valued in economic terms.

The project has shown the wide range of terrestrial datasets currently available for evaluating ecosystem services, although data availability is generally less advanced for cultural services. The differences that exist in quality, resolution and scale are further illustrated by the case study mapping.

TESSA facilitated the engagement of a variety of organizations on the issues facing the swamp and the ecosystem services provided and the results from the assessment were shared with stakeholders in order to continue to support conservation actions in the swamp.
